Sarah is the Project Administrator at the Family Online Safety Institute.
Last week at the 2012 FOSI Annual Conference, we unveiled Teach Parents Tech – an interactive video series for parents. The best part about these videos: the teens are the ones doing the teaching! The videos feature teens talking to parents about current technology topics and services from social media to apps and privacy settings.
For this first-ever screening of Teach Parents Tech, we were joined by guests and experts from industry, government and the non-profit sector. And, (not too toot our own horn) they told us they loved the videos! Not to mention, everyone was thrilled by the presentation we gave after the showing – we brought the teens featured in the series on-stage for a one-on-one discussion with our CEO, Stephen Balkam.
Similar to our presentation at the conference, we hope Teach Parents Tech will help bring to life some of the technology issues many parents have told us they struggle with. Through Teach Parents Tech parents won’t only be interacting with the teens on-screen; they will have the opportunity to connect with their own teens and other parents about what they’ve learned!
Teach Parents Tech allows parents to comment and discuss the videos, share their knowledge on social media or via email, and have conversations with their own teens about what they’ve seen. And, after completing any one of these actions, parents will be able to award themselves a virtual badge!
If you have a few minutes, WATCH one of the videos and try out any of these four interactions yourself!
